Joe Cavender GED Memorial Scholarship


Joe Cavender Scholarship

Joe Cavender was ALAPCAE president from 1990-1991 and then again from 2003-2009. He received his BS in Business Administration in 1976, completed 20 hours in the Adult and Vocational Education program at Auburn University, and received his MS in School Administration in 1982. Mr. Cavender was a  teacher of Adult Education for Cleburne County Schools System, 1976-1978. He was the Director of Adult Education for Calhoun, Cherokee and Cleburne Counties in 1978 and added Etowah County around 2002-2003 when Ayers State Technical College and Gadsden State Community College merged. He served 32 years as a director and over 35 years of service in Adult Education. Joe Cavender was a member of several state committees throughout his service in Adult Education to help make Adult Education successful in the State of Alabama for students and teachers. 

In honor of Mr. Cavender, ALAPCAE will award one (1) scholarship to a deserving individual.  The scholarship amount is dependent upon donations, so the final amount may not be known until the 2017 Alabama Adult Education Conference.  The deadline to apply is Friday, April 21, 2017.  No applications submitted after this date will be considered.
