David Walters is the State Director of Adult Education and GED® testing for Alabama through the Alabama Community College System (ACCS).

Mr. Walters’ career spans 23 years with various leadership roles in education at both a local and state level.  He has 6 years in local level education administration and 17 years in state level adult education administration.  Positions have ranged from an instructor to a state director for adult education with various levels of leadership in between.  

Mr. Walters has served and continues to serve on many state and national committees and workgroups.  He has received multiple commendations for his state and national level accomplishments.  Currently on a state level, Mr. Walters serves on the Alabama Workforce Development Board and the Alabama Department of Corrections Education Advisory Board.  On a National level Mr. Walters serves as a member of the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Career Technical and Adult Education (OCTAE) National Reporting System Technical Work group and is an Executive Committee member of the National Council of State Directors of Adult Education and the National Adult Education Professional Development Consortium. 

Mr. Walters considers it an honor and a privilege to lead the adult education efforts in the state and to serve fellow Alabamians.  He looks forward to advancing Alabama’s adult education system through collaborative partnerships and a shared vision for success. 

Mr. Walters is married to his wife Leslei, and has two sons, Zachary (21) and Jackson (13), and one daughter, Jenna (10). He and his family reside in Prattville, Alabama.
